This portrait was taken from a slide my Father took of our Mom in the late 50's. They had just met, Mom was about 20. The curtain backdrop is reminiscent of the time, as well as the colour palette, yellows and blue hues with brown warmth.
Taking reference from historic pictures can be a challenge. I like to research the decade a bit to get a feel of what colours should be introduced, played up or played down. To give the painting the feel of the moment it was captured. I welcome commissions that have historical reference photos.
